Clam Shells with Resistance Bands

Beginner, Lower body, Abductors, 3 x 12 each side

How to do it

Side-lying clam shell with the band above the knees to target the outer glutes.

You'll need

Steps

  1. Clam Shells with Resistance Bands: side-lying bent stacked knees and touching feet.

Lie on your side with your hips and knees stacked. Place the resistance band just above your knees. Bend your knees comfortably and keep your feet together.

  2. Clam Shells with Resistance Bands: top knee opening with feet visibly touching.

Keeping your feet together, slowly lift your top knee upward against the band. Keep your bottom leg resting on the floor. Imagine your knees opening like a clam shell.

  3. Clam Shells with Resistance Bands: open clam hold with stable pelvis guide.

Pause for 1–2 seconds at the top and squeeze your outer hip and glutes. Keep your hips and pelvis steady. Avoid rolling backwards.

  4. Clam Shells with Resistance Bands: closing arc plus mirrored opposite-side inset.

Slowly lower your top knee back down with control. Keep your feet together and maintain tension on the band. Repeat, then switch sides.

Stop if you feel pain. This is general guidance, not medical advice.
